The Bluebell Press
Dundonald Bluebell 2 Blackburn United 1

Bluebell were looking to secure their place in the 3rd round of the East of Scotland Cup as they entertained Blackburn United from the Premier League.

The superleague side started the game aggressively with their strength and physicality proving difficult to handle for the away side. Blackburn had to make 2 substitutions in the opening 30 minutes due to injury, however, this disruption did not alter their game plan which was to get plenty men behind the ball and try and catch the Bell on the breakaway.

Blackburn’s Hutton had to make a couple of goal line clearances from headers by Wedderburn and then Wilson as the Bell used their height advantage to good effect. As the 1st half dragged to a close the away sides goalkeeper Marley had to pull off a terrific diving save to deny a Smith overhead kick before touching over an Archie Campbell effort from a quick Durie throw in.

The 2nd half starter how the 1st ended with Bluebell having lots of possession but Blackburn defending well. Smith hit the bar with a header from a Durie cross. McKenzie who was proving a real threat to Blackburn turned an Archie Campbell pass goal bound only for the impressive Marley to once again tip the ball away.

However, with only 13 minutes remaining and with minds slowly beginning to turn in the direction of a possible penalty shoot out, McKenzie wasn’t about to turn down another opportunity and after good build up play thumped a Moffat pass into the bottom right hand corner to open scoring.

Three minutes later the home side increased the lead further when McKenzie’s shot was deflected past the away keeper by the ever alert Smith.

Blackburn to there credit didn’t give up and after Forbes misjudged a through ball, Mcquillan ran through to slip the ball past Lennox in the home goal. The superleague side comfortably saw the game out and take there place in the 3rd round.

Bluebell:

Lennox, Durie, Drummond, Wedderburn, Wilson, Forbes, Martin, Campbell, Smith, McKenzie and Gray. Subs Meikle, Moffat, Patrick, Quinn and Walton.

Hal.

Calling On Bell Support

The club have applied for a social fund grant and have, subsequently, been invited to present our case.

The best man for public speaking, Davy Penman, is on the job but is looking for some support from the rank & file.

Here’s what  ‘Dov‘ had to say –

The application for the grant is in. However, there is a presentation required on the 8th November at 18.30 (Bowhill Institute).

The kangaroo court held in the howf decided I was bestowed the honour of delivering this.

There are 8 groups in total in for this, and each has to do a small presentation relating to their individual cause. After this there is a ballot. So in a nutshell, Votes =win or lose!

We need a few of our ground troops along to give us support.

Don’t be shy folks… it’s Davy who’s doing the hard bit.
